Industrial Silhouette (Beach), 2017

This video piece re-examines Mendieta’s Siluetas Series (1973) with expanding foam as a representative of the industrial materials that form today’s urban landscape and the beach as a site of political confrontation and a natural frontier. The work also deals with themes of dislocation and belonging in relation to my own migration from Puerto Rico to New York City.
